CHAPTER 5[002]

The most beautiful flower.[020]

At twelve o’clock that day, the people are going to the shops.[028]

They see the Giant. He is playing with the children in the most beautiful garden.[040]

All day long the children play. In the evening, they come and say goodbye to the Giant.[052]

‘But where’s your little friend?’ he asks them.[058]

The young boy is the Giant’s favorite because he remembers the child’s kiss.[068]

‘We don’t know.’ one of the children answers.[075]

‘He isn’t here now.’[078]

‘Well, he must come again tomorrow. Please tell him that,’ the Giant says.[090]

‘Where does he live?’[092]

‘We’re not sure,’ a different child says.[097]

‘We don’t know him.’[101]

When the Giant hears this, he is very sad.[109]Every afternoon, when school finishes, the children come and play with the Giant.[120]But the Giant’s favorite, the little boy, never comes back.[130]The Giant is very nice to all the children, but he wants to see his first little friend again.[142]He speaks about him a lot.[147]

‘I’d like to see him again one day,’ he often says.[157]

After many years, the Giant is old and weak.[164]He cannot play any more.[169]So he sits in a nice big chair, and he watches the children’s games.[180]

He looks at his garden happily, too.[186]

‘I have many beautiful flowers,’ he says.[192]

‘But the children are the most beautiful flowers of all.’
