A Day Off
Marshal Aldrin works for an important import-export company in New York. One morning, Marshal called his boss, Ralph, at the office at nine o’clock. He said that he was sick and couldn’t make it to work. So he got a day off. His boss told him to stay in bed until he feels well enough to come back to work.
Ralph liked Marshal, so at 1:30 he got into his car, bought some fresh fruit for him and drove to his house to see him.
Marshal was lying in bed. He thanked Ralph.
At three o’clock, Ralph turned on his TV to watch an important baseball game. Both team was playing very well, but neither team could score. The crowd was cheering and booing. It was very exciting.
Then at 3:20, Ralph’s favorite team hit a home run. Ralph jumped out of chair. He was smiling happily when suddenly his smile disappeared, and he looked very upset. Ralph saw Marshal’s face on the screen. He didn’t look sick. He was smiling happily and cheering wildly.

ساعت سه، رالف تلویزیونش را روشن کرد تا یک مسابقه مهم بیسبال را ببیند. هر دو تیم خیلی خوب بازی میکردند، اما هیچ کدام گل نمیزد. جمعیت در حال شادی کردن بودند. خیلی هیجان انگیز بود.
سپس ساعت 3:20 تیم مورد علاقه رالف یک امتیاز گرفت. رالف از صندلی اش بالا پرید. او داشت با شادی لبخند میزد که ناگهان لبخندش ناپدید شد، و بسیار غمگین به نظر میرسید. رالف چهره مارشال را روی صفحه تلویزیون دید. او مریض نبود. او داشت با خوشحالی لبخند میزد و شادی میکرد.
